Brashear family
Dear Friends,
We are the Brashear family: Derek, Missy, and Caleb. We have supported CHM Bible Theater for over 7 years.
We have so much gratitude for Crystal Hogue and her Bible Theater: CHM Bible Theater has encouraged Caleb’s journey in his faith and the performing arts.
When Caleb celebrated his first birthday, Derek and I could already see his love for performing shining through. Derek, in his wisdom, said, “That boy is going to be on stage someday doing something big for the Lord!”
At the time, though, we really didn’t know how to guide that gift or help him grow in it. As a family, we’ve always tried to be careful about what influences shape Caleb. We want the things he sees and experiences to strengthen his faith and build his character.
Then in 2018, Crystal announced her Genesis play, and Caleb jumped at the chance to audition. He ended up playing young Jesus, with Ms. Ellen as Mary. Through that experience, something in Caleb truly came alive. Crystal encouraged him, guided him, and helped him begin to understand what it means to use his talents for God’s glory.
Over the years, we’ve watched Caleb grow in so many wonderful ways through performing. He’s learning to:
-
Stay focused and live in the moment
-
Relax when things don’t go perfectly
-
Be resilient and flexible
-
Lead with kindness and dependability
-
Work well with others and be a team player
-
Laugh at his mistakes
-
Stay honest and creative
-
Benefit from memorizing Scripture
-
Work hard and enjoy the rewards that come with it
It’s been amazing to watch these qualities take shape in him. Many child performers grow up to be creative problem-solvers and strong leaders, and it’s inspiring to see those same traits developing in Caleb because of the opportunities he’s had through CHMBT.
We are so thankful for how God has used this ministry to bless our family. It’s given Caleb real-life experiences, deepened his faith, and connected us with new friends who share our love for the Lord. And honestly, who doesn’t love spending time with Crystal?
We truly enjoy supporting Crystal’s mission and her Bible-based performances. We believe God has anointed her to bring His Word to life on stage in such a meaningful way.
As Matthew 18 reminds us, “Where two or more are gathered in His name, there He is in the midst of them.” It’s exciting to think about what God is doing in the hearts of those who attend or help bring these plays to life.
With gratitude and joy,
Melissa & Derek
